Itinerary
08:00 — Leave Tirana
Settle in for the roughly two-hour journey south. We take care of the driving while the Albanian countryside unfolds outside your window.
10:00 — Berat Castle
We begin above the city, where the castle rewards the climb with wide views across the valley. This is not simply a ruined fortress: people still live within its walls, among old lanes and historic churches.
Step inside traditional Berat life
The Ethnographic Museum is set inside an Ottoman-era home, so rather than hearing how people once lived here, you see the rooms, objects and traditions that made up everyday life.
Mangalem and Gorica
This is the Berat you have seen in photographs. Walk beneath the white houses of Mangalem, cross the historic Gorica Bridge over the Osum, and explore the quieter lanes on the opposite bank.
The Onufri Museum
Inside the castle, the Onufri Museum holds the vivid religious artwork of one of Albania's most celebrated icon painters.
Lunch, the Albanian way
After exploring, slow things down over a traditional lunch at a local agritourism. Wine tasting can be added if you would like. (Lunch and wine tasting not included.)
