The fall of Communism in Albania, started in earnest in December 1990 with student demonstrations in the capital, Tirana, although protests had begun earlier that year in other cities such as Shkodra and Kavaja. But the Communism Period remained in the history which today seems very interesting to the people who join listening history. During this tour you will visit:
BunkArt opened its doors again in April 2016 and is exhibiting a fascinating display of art and history inside of a huge underground antinuclear bunker that was built in the 70s to give shelter to the Communist party in the eventual case of a foreign attack (some Albanians think it’s unfortunate that this never happened.) Right now it’s the ‘hip and cool’ place to visit in Tirana, in so many senses
Gallery of arts– We can arrange to have an engaging conversation with a real-life painter who worked during the Communist period (with discussions on personal stories and Socialist-Realist aesthetics.) This will definitely be an informative, one-of-a-kind experience and we will have a nice coffee break at the end of it.
House of Leaves- is the newest museum to open in Albania, and probably the most intriguing. It is considered to be the equivalent of the Stasi headquarters of the former East Germany. The leaves have a double meaning: things hidden in woods, but also the leave of books and files, on people. Those curious to see what was hidden in the HQ of the notorious National Intelligence Service, also known as the House of Spies, will leave speechless.
After visiting the 3 mentions attractions above we will go at ‘Komiteti Museum Caffe’ for a little brunch, here you can also try the traditional ‘raki’ of Albania.
