How Many Days Do You Need in Albania? An Honest Answer

What 3, 5, 7 and 10 days realistically give you, from a local travel team

TRIP PLANNING October 20, 2026 5 min read

It is the first question most travellers ask, and the honest answer depends on what you want from the trip. Albania is small enough to cross in a day, but varied enough that a week barely covers it. Here is what each length of stay realistically gives you.

3 Days: A First Taste

Three days is enough to see Tirana properly and take one day trip. You will get a real sense of the country without seeing much of it.

  • Day 1: Tirana: Skanderbeg Square, the Blloku district, Bunk'Art, the Pyramid
  • Day 2: A day trip to Berat or Krujë
  • Day 3: Durrës for Roman ruins and the coast, or a second day in Tirana

Who it suits: city-break travellers, business trips with a spare day, stopovers.

5 Days: Coast and Culture

Five days lets you add the coast to the cities, though you will be moving fairly often.

  • Days 1–2: Tirana and one nearby day trip
  • Day 3: Transfer south to Berat, stay overnight
  • Days 4–5: The Riviera: Vlorë, Dhërmi or Himarë

Who it suits: first-time visitors who want both history and beaches.

7 Days: The Sweet Spot

A week is where Albania starts to make sense. You can see the coast, the stone cities and one mountain destination without rushing.

  • Days 1–2: The Riviera: Ksamil, Borsh, Dhërmi
  • Days 3–4: Butrint and the Blue Eye, then Gjirokastër and Berat
  • Days 5–6: North to Theth, Valbona or Lake Komani
  • Day 7: Tirana before you fly home

Who it suits: most travellers. If you have the time, this is the length we recommend.

10 Days or More: The Whole Country

With ten days you can see all of Albania without a single rushed morning, and you will have room for the places most visitors miss: Korçë and the southeast, Përmet and the Vjosa river, Sazan Island, Lake Ohrid, and more time on the Riviera.

Who it suits: slow travellers, photographers, returning visitors.

The Common Mistake

The most frequent regret we hear is not that people stayed too long, but that they underestimated travel times. Albania's distances look short on a map, but mountain and coastal roads take longer than the kilometres suggest. Tirana to Sarandë is about 280 km and takes four and a half to five hours. Building in a buffer day is almost always worth it.

Short on time? Long transfers are where a private driver saves the most: you can sleep, read or stop for the view instead of navigating. See our fixed transfer prices.
